Be Patient

“Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.” James 5:7-8

Have you ever planted a seed or seedling and patiently waited for it to grow into a mature bearing plant? You most likely carefully groomed the earth around it, watered it ever so gently, sprinkled choice fertilizer, delicately trimmed to shape it and joyously enjoyed the first fruits, vegetables or blossoms. You were so patient as your plant grew and strengthened.

I wonder if we show others this type of patience as they are growing? Do we sprinkle encouragement, delicately trim and joyously enjoy them as they grow? Do we talk sweetly to our spouses, children and neighbors? Do we gently come alongside them when they have stumbled or sinned? Do we help them up to stand firm in the Lord? Do we show His love?

Do we strengthen our own lives by fertilizing it with reading the Bible or are we spending more time reading novels, watching television or YouTube videos? Do we need to trim some of these extra activities so that we are able to grow deep roots and burst with beautiful blooms?

Since the coming of the Lord is drawing near, let’s be patient and strengthen one another through the encouragement of His Word.

Be Encouraged!

Prayer: Dear loving Father, thank You for sending Your Son who dwelled among us, teaching us how to love one another by His example. Thank You for giving us Your Word to enrich our lives and guide us while we patiently wait for Jesus’ return. May we honor You in all that we do! In His precious name we pray, Amen!
