Jesus Changes Us

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come; The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

My husband and I began watching the series “The Chosen” on TV a few nights ago. It is based on the story of Jesus, but focus’ on people’s response to Him. How they were affected and how He changed their lives. It was incredible. It made me think of my own walk with Jesus.

I have loved Jesus and desired to please Him for a long time, but I wonder what I would have been like without Him? I think I would have remained insecure, introverted and easily swayed. Trying to do anything for friendship or connection. Desperate to validate myself and my work.

How good and kind is our Savior. He takes broken, selfish and sinful people and He loves them. He wraps His arms around us and tells us we are His. We belong, we are someone important to Him and suddenly our life has purpose. We are filled with a desire to love Him in return and live a life that will bring Him joy. We long to please our Heavenly Father and see His affirmation in us.

I was raised in a church, of people trying to do the right thing on their own. The name of Jesus was rarely mentioned. We attended service, youth group, fundraisers, retreats, potlucks and even summer camps. But all empty without Jesus. People in community trying on their own to connect, to live, to “look” Christian and do what Christians do, but failing miserably.

Jesus changed all that. He took me out of an empty religion and filled me with real faith, and real relationship. And I am forever grateful! I can’t imagine living even one day without Him.

Prayer: Come Lord Jesus come! May we be a people forever drawn to your presence and goodness as we continue to strive to be more like you every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
