Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Peering through the fog, my car headlights barely pierced through it, but instead reflected a wall of light back at me. I trusted the bright white painted lines on the road to keep me on the path as I moved cautiously forward. I was quite a bit anxious, yet I prayed for God to keep me on the road and for nothing to come across my path so that I could reach my destination.
And then, before I could react, a deer jumped out in front of me and leapt into the next lane to which an oncoming car hit the poor animal. My heart ached and I began to cry: oh Lord why did you allow this to happen and for me to witness such a tragedy? You know how sensitive I am! I even prayed for nothing to cross my path, yet the deer did. Why? The emotional pain was agonizing. I shook in fear and did not want to continue driving, yet I had to go on. I prayed for God to help me concentrate and to trust Him to get me home safely.
Our Lord knows how much we can take and when we can’t take anymore. He wants us to turn to Him so that He can strengthen us and shape us to be more like His Son, Jesus. Sometimes this shaping is painful, yet it is for our good. It may be hard to understand why, but He is gracious and loving and wants what is best for each one of us. Trust in Him.
Prayer: Lord, I do not know why you allowed me to see what I did, but thank you for sparing me from what could have been even worse. I trust that you know what is best for my life and I lay it before you to shape me to be more like your Son. In His precious name, Jesus. Amen.
