Such a Time as This

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. What’s more, who can say but that you have been elevated to the palace for just such a time as this? Esther 4:14

Esther a young Hebrew woman is chosen to be Queen of Persia, over hundreds of beautiful women. These women had been brought to the palace, so the king could select a new wife.

However, behind the scenes Haman, one of the kings top advisers, devised a plot to have all of the Jewish people killed in the entire Kingdom of Persia. Esther is challenged by her cousin Mortdecai to go before the king (even though it is against the law, and could lead to her death), to plead for the lives of her people.

Mordecai told her if she did not speak up for her people, God would deliver the Jews in another way. However, what if she was given this position as queen for this very purpose? To save her people.

The Lord calls us to serve Him; to step up in faith, even in challenging circumstances and obey. If we choose not to answer that call, it might not come again. We would have lost the opportunity and the blessing to be of service to God and to people. The Lord would offer this opportunity to someone else.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I did not act on your leading. Enable me to clearly hear you when you call. Help me to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and obedient to whatever you would ask of me. In Jesus name. Amen.

  1. Good word Linda. We are His sent ones, which means saying “yes” even (or especially) when we are uncomfortable with the situation. I think saying yes is a lifelong discipline, which is worth everything because God is so faithful and wants to bless all involved. Blessings!
