We Still have Work to Do

Here I am today, 85 years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out… Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourselves heard than that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said. Joshua 14:10b-12

Caleb is ready to continue the Lords work, though he is 85 years old. He knows that with the Lord’s help he can still drive giants out of the land.

Does a believer ever retire? We may change jobs, but God still has work for us to do.

A friend of mine was recently at a hospital with her husband, who was receiving chemo treatment for his cancer, when she found herself sitting across from Luis Palau. He is a world famous, international Christian evangelist, that has dedicated his life to sharing the gospel around the world.

He was also receiving chemo treatment that day for cancer. He shared with my friend that he had fully expected to be in heaven by this time and was now surprised to hear that his tumor was in remission. He told her he was trying to work out what his purpose on earth would be now.

At the age of 85, Luis Palau was looking for new ways to serve the Lord.

God has a plan and purpose for our lives. And that plan doesn’t end when we decide to retire. The reason we are still on this earth is that God still has work for us to do.

So get to it. Figure it out and get busy. There is still land to be taken for the kingdom of God. And with the Lord’s help we will succeed.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for purpose and meaning in my life, that doesn’t end at a certain age. Show me how to serve in your kingdom today, right where I’m at. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
